Creating healthy change with our bold new School of Medicine

We believe change starts with education. That’s why we’re tackling the healthcare gaps facing our communities by introducing a bold new medical school.

At our School of Medicine, we will shape future-ready doctors who are dedicated to delivering primary care to those who need it most. Doctors from our communities who will work with our communities to improve health and wellbeing. And doctors who, through our pillars, or guiding principles, will advance our shared vision to build a healthier, more equitable world.

Dr. Teresa Chan, founding dean of TMU's School of Medicine and vice-president, medical affairs discusses how we can equip the physicians of tomorrow to succeed, why Brampton is the perfect place for a new school of medicine, and why she’s glad she didn’t take a straightforward path to becoming a doctor.

Our timeline

What started as a vision is quickly becoming a reality. In summer 2025, our new School of Medicine in Brampton will officially open its doors to learners in our residency programs; MD students will follow in September 2025, pending successful preliminary accreditation by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools.

The timeline below outlines some key dates that have defined our journey to date—and some milestones will shape our future.

Government of Ontario awards TMU planning grant for a medical school in Brampton

Government of Ontario confirms support for TMU School of Medicine

School of Medicine signs affiliation agreement with William Osler Health System (WOHS) as its primary clinical partner

2023 to present

Bramalea Civic Centre

January 2023

City of Brampton donates former Bramalea Civic Centre as the future home of the School of Medicine, along with $20 million to support its transformation
